CNN —Dozens of employees at Italian fashion house Gucci staged a strike on Monday to protest the company’s decision to move its design office from Rome to Milan. CGIL has argued that asking staff to move to Milan, approximately 300 miles north of the capital, in the first half of 2024 was tantamount to laying them off. While sales of luxury goods were on a tear earlier in the year, the market cooled in the second half of 2023. Yet, if Gucci’s new designer Sabato de Sarno was rattled before he took his bow for the Italian luxury house at Milan fashion week on Friday, he didn’t show it. Where Michele was an overt maximalist with retro references, de Sarno mined the Gucci archive and codes in a more stripped-back way. Oxblood red dominated the collection, inspired by The Savoy hotel in London where Guccio Gucci worked in the late 1800s. The bling was, in fact, a reference to the Marina jewelry collection that appeared in Gucci campaigns in the late 1960s. The rest of the embellished crystal designs were inspired by embroideries de Sarno found on 1960s clutch bags in the Gucci archive.

CNN —The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced on Monday. Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva, two of the stars from “Lopez vs. Lopez,” announced the range of film and television nominees as selected by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). Favored Oscars contender “The Banshees of Inisherin” led the film categories, with nominations including best musical or comedy film. It stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. The ceremony, which was not broadcast last January over controversy surrounding the HFPA, will return to NBC on Jan. 10.

Con artist Anna Sorokin is making her way back into the NYC social scene by hosting dinner parties in her apartment, Eater reports. Sorokin was released from ICE custody in October, but remains under house arrest in her Manhattan apartment. Sorokin, now 31, is currently under house arrest in her East Village apartment, but the ankle monitor hasn't stopped her from hosting invite-only dinner parties, Fortune reports. Sorokin is required to wear an ankle monitor during her house arrest, but it hasn't stopped her from expressing her fashion sense. The former fake heiress will remain under house arrest, which includes a social media ban, until her battle with ICE to remain in the US is settled.

CNN —Anna Sorokin, the fake heiress Netflix’s “Inventing Anna” is based on, was released from ICE detention on Friday. The judge’s ruling also said ICE may use an ankle monitor to keep tabs on Sorokin. A spokesman for ICE said Sorokin was being released Friday after the judge’s ruling. Sorokin was released from jail in February 2021 after serving nearly four years on theft and larceny charges. Earlier this year an attorney representing Sorokin told NBC News that he feared her deportation when he couldn’t reach her, but word later emerged that she was still in ICE custody.
